“Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” — Matthew 19:14
Children Are Watching—What Are We Teaching?
If you’ve ever had a child mimic something you said (especially when you didn’t want them to), you know this truth: kids are always learning.
Not just from what we teach—but from how we live.
The way we respond to stress, pray at the dinner table, or treat strangers—these moments form a mosaic of faith for the next generation.
You don’t have to be a theologian to inspire faith. You just have to be faithful.
Jesus’ Love for Children
Jesus didn’t tolerate children—He welcomed them. In fact, He told His disciples that unless we become like children, we cannot enter the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 18:3).
That means kids don’t need a “junior” gospel. They need the real thing—delivered with love, patience, and truth.
When we teach children to pray, read Scripture, or trust in God, we’re sowing seeds that can bear fruit for a lifetime.
A Personal Story: My Little Discipler
One night, I was tucking my child into bed. We were talking about something simple—maybe what they ate for lunch. Then, out of nowhere, they asked, “Does God ever get tired of loving people who don’t love Him back?”
My heart caught in my throat.
Children ask the best questions because they haven’t learned to filter doubt or wonder. That question led to a 20-minute conversation about grace—and a moment I will never forget.
How to Teach Faith to Children (Even If You Feel Unqualified)
- Make God part of everyday talk.
Don’t reserve spiritual conversations for Sundays. Talk about God during chores, walks, and mealtimes. - Pray with and for them.
Let them hear your honest prayers—and invite them to pray, too. - Use stories.
Jesus used parables. Use kids’ Bibles, storytelling, puppets, even sidewalk chalk. Let them “see” the truth. - Model forgiveness.
When you mess up, apologize. When they mess up, show grace. That teaches more than any lesson plan. - Celebrate spiritual wins.
Memorized a verse? Prayed for a friend? Celebrate it like a birthday!
A Simple Prayer for Your Little Ones
Lord, help me guide the hearts of the children You’ve entrusted to me. Give me patience, wisdom, and childlike wonder. Let me lead by example and love unconditionally, just as You do. May my life reflect You, so their hearts may be drawn to You. Amen.
Encouragement to End
You don’t have to teach everything perfectly. Just show them Jesus—through your love, your humility, and your presence.
The heart of a teacher isn’t about knowledge—it’s about love.
So keep loving boldly. Speaking gently. Praying faithfully.
You may be shaping a soul that will shape the world.
